Beyond Good & Evil 2: Release date, Story Features And other Details

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is a big game with big dreams. Lead a group of space pirates? Going on an intergalactic journey through the virtual solar system? See talking monkeys? Sounds incredible. On top of that, the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil 2 is essentially a prequel to a game that you (let’s be honest) probably didn’t even pay attention to after its release.

Therefore, it is not surprising that you do not quite understand what this is about. Next, we will tell you what happened with Beyond Good & Evil 2, what details about the development known at the moment, and most importantly – we will help you understand the essence of the expected game.

RELEASE DATE

Unfortunately, at the moment, not even a complete list of platforms for which the game will release has been approved. What can we say about the exact release date?

We know for sure that the game will not release until 2021. Given the lengthy development process and rumors of problems, maybe even in 2022, on PC and consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X . Supposedly, BG&E 2 will also appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Still, there is no confirmation of this – it all depends on the timing of the game’s release.

THE LONG-AWAITED ANNOUNCEMENT OF BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2, STRETCHED OUT FOR YEARS

In 2016, Beyond Good & Evil director Michel Ansel posted a photo on his Instagram that appears to be closely related to the release of BG&E 2. The photo shows a mechanic holding a small anthropomorphic pig on his shoulders.

The caption to the photo reads: “Somewhere in system 4 … – Thank you #Ubisoft for making this possible!” Many saw the young Pey’J in the picture, but then there was no complete certainty of this. And yet, the incredible visual similarity of the snapshot with the character of the first part of BG&E gave rise to many talks.

Shortly after that, Ansel posted another image, a humanoid shark, confirming that Beyond Good & Evil 2 (unless the project name is changed) is in development. Finally, at E3 2017, Ubisoft officially announced Part 2, showing off a cinematic trailer and inviting Ansel on stage to share his vision of the game with fans. The official announcement of Beyond Good and Evil 2 has finally taken place.

FEATURES OF GAMEPLAY AND COMBAT SYSTEM

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an online sandbox game. Players can create their character (normal human or hybrid) who starts at the very bottom of the socio-economic ladder. To become the captain of a spaceship and go on an interplanetary journey, the player will have to devote sufficient time to develop. In this case, you can explore the stars alone or with friends.

Even at the development stage, the project demonstrates a seamless transition from a research scale for a single user to more global and atmospheric space travel. Obviously, this game is still at the prototype stage, but the main “skeleton” and the part devoted to exploring outer space (the presence of which is already the next step after games with an open world, right?) Are already in place.

If we talk about the combat system, then the usual battles on the ground and starships are noticeably diverse. It can see even at an early stage:

Players will be given a certain amount of freedom in the customization of space ships :

THE PLOT OF BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2 IS A PREQUEL, IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FORMAT

Michel Ansel, director of Beyond Good & Evil 2, describes System 3 (the star system where the main events will occur) as something radically different from the first part. While the story of the original game is about heroism and government collaboration, the next part is more of a pirate adventure, starting at the height of the popularity of anthropomorphic hybrids. Beyond Good & Evil 2 tells about a time when most of the hybrid creatures are actively sold and have the status of slaves.

It means that the actions of Beyond Good & Evil 2 will unfold before the start of the events of the original game in a completely different solar system. Therefore, it is logical to expect from the continuation of some audiovisual hints that this is the same, familiar universe. True, with completely different characters, but it is worth waiting for the appearance of old acquaintances – for example, Jade, who became the star of one of the game’s trailers, appearing in the role of a villain.

BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2 HAS BEEN IN DEVELOPMENT FOR OVER 10 YEARS

The first part of Beyond Good & Evil is one of the best games you’ve ever played. Developed by Ubisoft, somewhat similar to the Zelda RPG, but with a huge open-world (at least for 2003 ), the story centers on photojournalist Jade, who takes care of orphans and masters the martial arts.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that all this takes place in an alien world with anthropomorphic animals, including Jade’s “uncle” – a pig named Pey’J. The game immediately became a cult game, although the commercial success of Beyond Good & Evil left much to desire. Because of what the release of the continuation of the series has long remained a big question.

Ubisoft released the first trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2 back in 2008. … pretend. Perhaps the authors did not want to give fans empty promises, which later could not kept. Therefore, Ubisoft did not recognize the game as “Beyond Good & Evil 2”, as well as the fact that the characters were Jade and Pey’J. Okay, who are we kidding though, take a look at this!

The following year, the gameplay prototype was leaked to the network, after which it began to distribute actively. Most likely, in the trailer, we see the main character of the game, Jade, who runs through the city (the streets of which, compared with the first part, look more alive), making her way between buildings and climbing onto roofs, dodging bullets from pursuers in armor. Imagine Uncharted, but more agile. Better not imagine anything, but watch the trailer:

Ubisoft confirmed that they are indeed working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 but at the same time denied information from the trailer. This mixture of denial and evasive responses from the studio continued until 2016 when we received the first serious clue as to which direction the game was heading.

COMPANIONS IN BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2: FROM A FRIGHTENING TIGER MAN TO A PANDA SIPPING TEA

During one of the first online broadcasts of the “Space Monkey Program” (this is the name given to a series of streams for the gaming community Beyond Good & Evil 2, which actively helped collect feedback in exchange for details about the game), narration designer Gabriel Schraner explained that players will be able to assemble their pirate crew and that some NPCs can recruits as companions. They will have a detailed backstory and their motivation for traveling, so the characters will feel more “alive,” like partners in popular games from BioWare.

If you believe the concept art that the studio showed, then compared to the first part, which distinguishes by its heavily stylized design, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will have more realistic graphics.

The characters from the first part were distinguished by their cartoony, which accompanied the player throughout history. In some respects, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will likely retain this trait, but it will be a more realistic project.

If the original trailer is hardly proof of this theory, after E3 2017, Ansel and his team have published several concept arts, which generally show a darker view of the galaxy and its inhabitants.

MICHEL ANSEL IS NO LONGER WORKING ON THE GAME

Legendary game designer Michel Ansel, who was behind the original Beyond Good & Evil and the Rayman series, unexpectedly announced his retirement from the gaming industry in the fall of 2020. According to him, he decided to focus on his second passion – wildlife, and to devote himself to creating an open reserve with wild animals.

However, several anonymous sources from the studio dealing with Beyond Good & Evil 2 revealed the true reason for Ansel’s departure. According to them, the game director created a toxic atmosphere in the team and did not cope with management. Ansel and Ubisoft himself have denied these rumors; be that as it may, the loss of a key developer will certainly affect the project’s progress.

In the meantime, the publisher notes that the creation of the game is moving according to plan and promises to share new details in 2021.

NETFLIX TO FILM BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2

The well-known streaming service announced the creation of a film adaptation of Beyond Good & Evil 2. Rob Letterman, known for “Detective Pikachu”, was selected as the director. The filming will use a combination of acting with computer animation – as it was in the film about Pikachu. The timing of the film’s premiere, the performers of the main roles, and the synopsis, have not yet announced.
